Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
Your privacy matters. The World Cup 2026 extension and website are designed with a minimal-data philosophy: local storage first, optional sign-in, no ads, no trackers, no data sales. This policy explains exactly what we do and don't collect.
1. What information we collect
We collect minimal information to operate the extension and this website:
• Extension usage: We do not collect personally identifiable information from the extension. Settings (favorite team, notification preferences, language) are stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local and never transmitted to our servers.
• Optional account: If you choose to sign in, we store your email address and a pseudonymous user ID to sync your settings across devices. Sign-in is entirely optional.
• Website analytics: This website uses Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights, which collect anonymized page-view data (page URL, referrer, country, browser) to help us improve performance. No cookies are set for analytics.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect solely to:
• Provide and improve the extension's core features (scores, schedule, standings, notifications) • Sync optional user preferences when you sign in • Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve page performance • Respond to support requests you submit voluntarily
3. Data sharing and third parties
We do not sell, trade or rent your personal information to third parties.
We use the following sub-processors:
• Vercel — hosting and edge infrastructure for this website • Firebase / Google — optional authentication and cross-device settings sync • Match data providers — we fetch match data from licensed sports API partners; no user data is transmitted in these requests
All third-party services are bound by their own privacy policies and applicable data protection law.
4. Chrome extension permissions
The extension requests only the permissions it needs:
• storage — to save your settings locally • notifications — to send match alerts (only if you enable them) • sidePanel — to render the side panel surface • alarms — to schedule periodic score refreshes in the background • host permissions — to fetch live match data from our API endpoints
We do not request access to your browsing history, tabs or any website content unless you explicitly use an in-page feature.
5. Cookies
The extension does not set any cookies.
This website uses a single session cookie for security when you are signed in. No third-party advertising cookies are used.
6. Data retention
Local extension settings are stored in your browser until you uninstall the extension or clear browser data.
If you have a signed-in account, your email and preference data are retained until you delete your account (available in extension Settings > Account). You may request deletion at any time by contacting us.
7. Children's privacy
The extension and this website are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
• Access the personal data we hold about you • Correct inaccurate data • Request deletion of your data • Object to or restrict processing • Data portability
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Material changes will be announced via the Chrome Web Store listing changelog. The date at the top of this page indicates the most recent revision.
